Piqua, Ohio

Hello, there! I have been so so so so so busy today! I got up, exercised, showered, and had lunch at Panera bread with my roommate. (By the way, we conveniently have a panera bread right across from UD.) Anyways, we had to scurry back to campus because I had to go on a little trip with the River Stewards for the River Summit.

The University of Dayton hosts a River Summit every year, which is like a big conference that people associated with rivers or interested in river development stuff are invited to attend. I don't know very much about it, so I may be wrong because this is my first year as a steward. I'll let you know more about it after it actually happens! Anyways, the river stewards all decided to go along the Miami River corridor and visit a lot of the cities, put together a presentation about things to do in these cities, and then present our experience at the Summit. My group went to Piqua, Ohio. I am from a town half the size of Piqua, so I was not shocked by the atmosphere of Piqua, but the other Stews were a little surprised by it's small town quirks. Anyways, we walked around the downtown, took a bunch of pictures, and got a feel for the town.

We spent a lot of time at the library because it was packed full of history and it was a beautiful place! Their library used to be a luxury hotel in the late 1800's until the mid 1900's. It was really interesting because they showed us where the women used to enter the hotel separate of the men. The women had their own stair case and were not allowed to be in the main hotel lobby because it was a "man's place" for talking politics, business, and smoking, so the women had a lobby on the second floor. After the library, we had dinner at a place called, Heck Yeah!, which was really, really good. Heck Yeah! is right on the river with beautiful views and great food. Overall, we really enjoyed our visit!

After Piqua, I met my roommate at her car and we headed right to Target. I finally got home at about 8:30, and now I am just exhausted. I have a lot of work to do, but unfortunately, that will not be getting done tonight. Have a great night!
