Weekend with the "Fam"
This past weekend I was super busy splitting my time between my various “families.” One of the families was my actual relatives who came in from all over the place for a quick weekend visit. I came home to my parents’ house to be there to see all of them, but then I had to skidattle off to Dayton Saturday evening to see my River Steward “family.” Saturday night I went back to my parents’ house to be home for the big shindig Sunday and see my fiance’s family. It was a crazy but fantastic weekend!
Saturday I went over to my grandma and grandpa’s house to see several of my dad’s siblings in town and I was startled at their disappointment with just me at the door. To be honest, I have been so busy that I completely forget that I am getting married, and my family has apparently not forgotten. I have never been one to do the family thing with my fianceé, so I have failed at transitioning from just me to us. My family made it quite clear, though, that I am not to attend family functions alone. In my defense, Brandon, my fianceé, is currently in the police academy and was not able to go anyways.
Sunday we had lunch with all of the family and then I went to Brandon’s parents’ for dinner. My weekend was a crazy whirlwind, but I am so thankful to have such a great family. I am so grateful for their openness to new family members and how close we all are. It seems like so many families are content seeing each other only on holidays, but our family is spread all over the country and still gets together multiple times a year. Weekends with the family leave one feeling blessed.
