A New Take on Life07.21.2009Yesterday, the second day of my roadtrip ended as we arrived at Poppys cousin Petes house. Before we made it over, however, we visited Poppys brother Tony, his wife, and kids. I want to talk about my cousin Dominick for just a bit. This kid is absolutely amazing. He is eighteen years old and about to turn nineteen. Just a few years ago, he got a cancerous tumor removed from his brain, causing him to not be able to speak or walk. He also had to get chemo therapy treatment as well. Today however he speaks pretty clear. Though not able to walk yet, he goes to therapy. But its not even this that amazes me. Its the fact that after all that he is gone through, all the obstacles that have happened, he is one of the most upbeat and positive people I have ever met. He does not complain about anything, and it seemed to be a real eye opener for me. I think differently about life now as I really have nothing to complain about. After meeting Dominick, I can say that I look up to him, as he is the bigger man than I have. He has endured more pain and suffering than I could have handled, yet he is one of the happiest people you will ever meet.
After visiting with them for a little while, we made our way over to Petes house where tons of food was waiting for us to eat. It was delicious. I have met so many people in my family that I have never seen, it was definitely really cool. And let me tell you, there is no question that my family is Italian as they are all loud. After dinner we went out to the backyard where we spent the rest of the night around a fire and I listened to stories of when they were kids. I had a great time and Im very excited to see what is in store for the rest of the trip!
As always, Be safe and make good choices!
