Basketball Season has Officially Begun

It's hard to believe another season of Dayton Flyer's Basketball has started again. On Saturday, we had our season opener against Creighton. This game was big for a few different reasons. The first is that we have the 5th longest home game winning streak at 20 games. I would say that is pretty impressive! We have a top 30 attendance in the country. It's definitely a one of a kind experience to come watch the Flyers at UD arena. The second reason for this game being big was that Creighton gave us our first loss last year when we were on the road playing in their house. So on Saturday, we were out for revenge.

Running out the flags at the beginning of the game is a pretty cool experience. Seeing 13,500 fans standing up, cheering, clapping, yelling...well its pretty sweet. The first half had a lot of action. The first two points we scored was on a dunk...what an awesome way to start of the season. However, much of the first half consisted of some sloppy looking basketball, even to the point where we were at a 9 point deficit. We were able to cut the lead to only 4 points going into halftime. Coach Brian Gregory must have had an emotional talk to the players during half time because they came out explosive in the second half, dominating the floor which lead to the 90-80 win over Creighton.

On another brief note...the Women's Basketball team pulled off an upset victory over number 10 ranked Michigan State on Friday which was awesome, as well as the Girl's Soccer team winning against Marquette in the first round of the NCAA tournament. So far this weekend has been full of Flyer victories. I hope the winning spirit continues.

As always, be safe and make good choices!
