My First 10K" Over the weekend i ran my first 10 k run. For those who do not know distance in kilometers, it comes out to about 6.2 miles. I was planning on running the 5k. We thought the race started at 7 am so we got there, but when they announced the 10k would start it five minutes, i said ""What the heck??? the 5k does not start for another hour. I am not going to wait that long to run!"" At the spur of the moment I decided to run the longer race just to get it over with.
Let me just say, those were some of the longest miles in my life. It was a two loop course. I would say the hardest part was the first three miles but once i finished those, I knew I was halfway there. My finishing time was forty-one minutes and eleven seconds, or about an eight minute a mile pace. I thought, hey not too bad.
The most exciting part of the race was the end. I had caught up with a few guys who were in way better running shape than I was. For the last quarter of a mile, the three of us picked up the pace before one of the other guys and I pulled ahead. As we ran faster, I could feel my stomach starting to turn, and I knew I was going to get sick. Knowing what was inevitable, I booked it through the finish line where I ran right into the woods and got sick. Feeling better, I grabbed some water and a banana to help calm myself.
I have to say, it was a great experience. I am not a big fan of running, but now I have this desire to improve my time. One negative aspect was the amount of pain my legs were in. For the next few days, I walked with a limp while dealing with the extreme soreness in my legs. But it is all good, it was a great experience. I am not sure when I will do another one, but I plan on it within the next couple of months."
