Something new for meRecently, the remnants of Hurricane Ike came through Ohio causing massage power outtages around Dayton down to Cincinnati. It came through on Sunday. I was sitting in Kellys apartment just staring out the window watching the trees swaying and bending as if they were trying to touch the ground. But then a huge crack, and I watched a large branch fall on the powerline behind the apartment complex, snapping the line, and nearly hitting a car parcked outside. Immediately the power went out. Everyonce in a while, I could hear off in the distance a transformer or a powerline snapping by the loud popping noise.
Luckily for me, I had power where I lived in Marianist. But unfortunately, many students did not have power. All of the student neighborhood was out of power for four or five days. It was weird to see nothing but darkness when looking at the neighborhoods as I was accustomed to seeing some lights, hear music playing, or just some type of noise. Many students bunked in with others who had power. The library was constantly packed as many internet connections were down across campus.
After a long week, power was fully restored to the majority of campuse. The only complaint I would make is having class the day after the storm came through. Although I had power, many others did not. We were one of the only colleges between Dayton and Cincinnati to have class so that was kind of disappointing. I guess we cannot have things our way. Hopefully we do not have anything serious like that for a while.
Thoughts and Prayers go out to those who were hit by any of the hurricanes. God Bless
