You know what I love to do? Do you know what I really, really love to do?
Brag about Dayton, of course!
Story time! I was recently at the RecPlex (the gym) on a lovely Sunday evening around 11:00 p.m. (when else would you want to go?) when I was confused to see a large group of people hanging around with matching lanyards and sleeping bags. Now, this is one of those times where you just have to figure out what’s going on— it’s not every day you see people gearing up to spend the night at the gym. As it turns out, this group was made up of high school seniors who had accepted admission from the University and where taking part in one of our overnight programs. I guess I forgot to check my calendar!
If you’re a prospective student, and you’ve taken a tour at the University of Dayton, there’s about a 60/40 chance that I’ve personally yelled “go flyers!” or something similar at your group. Chances are, if you’re a student, you were more than likely confused. If you’re a parent, you probably loved it. What can I say? It’s what I love.
I love sharing my love of this University with others. I love taking every opportunity I can to share my experiences with people considering coming here. Needless to say, I struck up a conversation with one of those visiting seniors— a conversation that went on to last well over an hour. It was a conversation about everything that I love about this school. We talked about the class sizes and how I’ve never had a class over 32 people. We talked about the size of the school, and how I love not having to consider bus schedules to get to my class 3 minutes away. We talked about how, just that night, I was stuck on a homework question and I texted my teacher to ask for help. We talked about how, even though there’s over 8,000 of us, I can still find a friendly face on the way to class. We talked about what made this place home.
There’s so many things that we can brag about in our lives. Our cars. Our skills on the field (play me in soccer,I dare you). Our academic abilities. With so much that we can brag about, there’s nothing I would rather brag about more than my choice of school. There’s no doubt in my head that I chose wisely. I chose a school that will put me in an amazing place in the competitive job market after I graduate. I chose a school that makes me feel at home.
I chose a school that I love.
So please, feel free to reach out if you want to know more. You know, I love to brag.
The song of the week is "I Wanna Talk About Me" by my favorite, Toby Keith. I think it's fitting for the topic. And catchy.
