Being Open to the Opportunity

It’s been a quick summer, and it’s crazy to think that in just one week I’ll be back on campus preparing for the arrival of the class of 2021. So much has happened in the past handful of months— i’ve seen so much, met so many interesting people, and had some phenomenal work experiences.

This summer I’ve had the opportunity to work not only one job, but two. For the majority of the week I work in the City of Dublin’s City Manager’s Office on a whole host of different projects ranging from putting together Request for Proposals (FRPs) for upcoming city projects to working on planning the visit of various Irish government delegates. Needless to say, the experiences in that position have really opened my eyes to all of the different aspects and complications of government and has really energized me going into my future career.

The second part of this is where the title of this post comes into play. Two weeks into summer I was approached by a long-time family friends with interest in bringing me on to work with his web design and marketing company. Coming into that position, being open to that opportunity to experience private sector operations has been an invaluable experience that will help me with any job going forward.

When you're a student at the University of Dayton you’re constantly being exposed to new chances to engage and be a part of something that you may have never considered. The more you’re engaged in, the more experience you gain. Dayton has taught me to be open to new chances, new experiences, and new opportunities— lessons that have already began to transfer into the growth of my professional career.

It should go without saying that I’m beyond excited to get back on campus and see what new opportunities this year will hold.
