Today, in the midst of calculus and biology homework, I got a phone call from my uncle. He said he was in the area and wanted to take me to dinner. And, if there is one thing I have learned from being a college student, it is never turn down free food – or the opportunity to see family.  I gave him directions to campus and we agreed to meet in front of my dorm at 7. When he arrived, he was excited to see the campus and my dorm room for the first time.  After showing him around, we set out for Brown Street to find a place for dinner.
We decided to eat at Penn Station. It was great to be able to catch up with him and let him know how things were going. We talked about classes and college life and he updated me on my family – he had been at my dad’s birthday party the day before. It was awesome to get away from campus for a little bit and just talk about life. I am fortunate to have great relatives who care about me and are genuinely interested in my life. It is moments like tonight that make me miss home, but at the same time, they make me realize how thankful I am.
