President's Blog: From the Heart

Happy First Day!

It's finally here — my first day as president of this great university.

As I drove down Stewart Street this morning, I was greeted by a huge, colorful banner over the entrance, "Welcome to the Neighborhood, President Eric Spina."

Walking to my office from the RecPlex in my workout clothes, I ran into the UD paparazzi — two videographers and photographer waiting to chronicle the day. Later, a breakfast buffet lined the second-floor hallway in St. Mary's Hall, a sign of Marianist hospitality. My wife, Karen, and I greeted so many wonderful people who dropped by to say hello and welcome us to the UD family.

Taking the cell phone from social media strategist Michaela Eames, I recorded a quick Snapchat, "Good morning, University of Dayton! Happy first day of the 19th presidency of the University of Dayton!"

It feels great to be home. For a feature story about my first day, click here.

It’s a way of life.
