Media Monday: Video Auto-Editing

08.11.2014

Disney ResearchCameras are becoming increasingly ubiquitous in every part of our lives – from cat videos to high resolution satellite imagery, and now even monkeys are joining the fun. Right now, when multiple people are filming the same event at a party, sports game, or concert, it is difficult to combine everyone’s imagery into a video that can show multiple points-of-view. That might all change with Disney Research’s new algorithm. The algorithm takes videos of the same event from multiple points-of-view, then splices together sections based on best quality, lighting, or angle to create a polished final cut. While the finished video might not have the complexity that a human editor could produce, this algorithm still strives to follow basic cinematographic guidelines and could greatly reduce an editor’s work.
