Mac Monday: iCloud

iCloudYou may not be aware of it, but your Mac device may be set up to automatically back up your data and settings on to your iCloud account. Given that these backups include purchase history from iTunes or the App store, app data, texts, and more, these backups can quickly fill up your valuable iCloud storage space. Apple provides 5GB of free storage with every iCloud account which can quickly be consumed with data you do not necessarily want to keep - especially if you have multiple devices per iCloud account.

To delete an old iCloud backup from an iOS device, open the Settings app, select iCloud, then select Storage. You will see a line graphic representing the amount of iCloud storage currently in use. Select a Backup that you want to have deleted. Then change your settings so you can prevent future backups from remembering unnecessary information.
