Media Monday: Hoverboard

HoverboardBack to the Future II correctly predicted the rise in popularity of wireless video games, 3D movies, tablet computers, video conferencing, and now - the much anticipated hoverboard. Lexus recently released a video demonstrating the use of its SLIDE hoverboard. Gliding seemingly effortlessly and beautifully across the concrete, SLIDE relies on superconductors and magnets which combine to repel the force of gravity and hover. Even more futuristic than other hoverboard prototypes, the SLIDE emits vapor from its sides . . . liquid nitrogen, in fact, to cool the superconductors to -321 degrees Fahrenheit. You may want to wait to start saving your money for one, though, as this maglev hoverboard can't work commercially until our roads and sidewalks are paved with magnets. For now, we'll just have to wait a few more years before the future can deliver Marty's more accessible, lightweight hoverboard.
