Quick Tip Tuesday: Recovering Word Files

RecoverYou've heard it a hundred times before - always save your documents periodically! This is best practice to avoid losing any hard work you may have done in case of power loss, computer corruption, or accidental deletion. It's easy to save without lifting your hands from the keyboard by pressing ctrl + s.

However, sometimes we forget to save and lose our work.

If you do lose parts of a document, there are several things you can try.

  • search for the document throughout the entire computer. There is a search box about the Start button in Windows 7, and a search box in the tiles view of Windows 8.
  • restart the program to look for the recovered document in the document recovery section.
  • For Office programs, you can search for AutoRecover files.

Check out this support article from Microsoft with specific instructions for these recovery methods for Office programs in all Windows operating systems.
