Alumni Success Profile

Yaimarie Queeman Soto

Barefoot Wine Field Brand Manager
E & J Gallo Winery

What was the year of your graduation from the SBA?

I graduated in 2014 with a Bachelor of Science, majoring in Marketing and Entrepreneurship.

What is your success story?

E&J Gallo Winery recruited me when I was a senior. At the time, I thought my biggest success was getting a job offer the first semester of my senior year, but Gallo had much more in store for me. After graduation in May 2014, I worked in Indianapolis as a Grocery Sales Representative, handling multiple wine portfolios. In the summer of 2016 I was promoted into the Barefoot Wine team and moved to Minneapolis. My new role involves overseeing events, demos, sponsorships and a whole lot more for Barefoot Wine for the state of Minnesota.

What did you learn as a business student that helped you succeed?

Throughout my time at UD, I was part of Epsilon Nu Tau (the first ever entrepreneurship fraternity); I was a Peer Advisor in the SBA Advising office; and I stayed involved in many of the clubs, teams, and competitions that the SBA has to offer. Engaged professors and innovative course work helped push me to be my best and to grow more confident. This prepared me for success with everything from interacting with grocery buyers to negotiating sponsorship deals.

Why do you love UD?

College was an interesting transition for me. I’m originally from Puerto Rico, so moving to the Midwest was a definite culture shock! However, at UD I felt my differences were embraced, and I soon felt quite at home. I love UD because it gave me an unbelievable sense of community in a setting that helped me develop personally and professionally. I wouldn’t be where I am if it weren’t for my UD experience.
