Student Success Stories

CASSIDY PIERCE

What is your major(s)?
I'll graduate in May 2018 with a double major in Accounting and Finance.

What is your success story?
I was selected to be a member of the Summer 2016 DC Flyers cohort, which is a fellowship program offered through the UD Honors Program. I spent my summer in Washington, DC and got to intern with the United States Securities and Exchange Commission in the Office of the Ethics Counsel. I learned a lot about investment regulations and SEC employee rules. This hands-on experience helped me to see how what I’ve learned in the classroom connects to real-world work.

What are your best SBA experiences so far?
My best SBA experiences so far have honestly just been getting to know and work with the professors. All of the professors are very approachable and have actually helped me realize that I would eventually love to become a professor as well.

How do you expect to carry these experiences over into your future plans?
I originally thought that I would like to take the typical accounting route and work in a public accounting firm after graduation. Although I still hope to have some time with an accounting firm for the experience, my SBA experiences and internship in DC have made me realize that this probably isn’t the route I want to stay on indefinitely in the future.

Why do you love UD?
I love UD because the community here is truly amazing and one of a kind. I’ve always told people that I feel like all the nicest people come together to meet at UD. I am constantly surrounded by people who are incredibly supportive and genuine. It’s easy to see that the faculty truly cares about one’s success and is more than willing to help in any way they can. This school offers endless opportunities and gives every student the resources to be able to take advantage of them.
