Professor Joel Whitaker curated this selection of apparition photographs from UD’s Marian Library collection. The photographs and the accompanying descriptive text written on the backs of the photos provide testimony of suspected “miraculous events” by ordinary observers. The exhibition, rather than attempting to prove or disprove what is claimed to be evident, uses the photographs as an investigation into personal artifacts, aesthetic qualities, vernacular photography, and an individual’s need to “see” and provide evidence of a belief. The gallery brochure, written by Associate Professor Anthony Smith from the Department of Religious Studies, examines the intersection of the aesthetic and descriptive aspects of the photographs.

Exhibit runs Jan. 15 - Feb. 12.  Reception: Thursday, Jan. 22, 5-7 p.m.
