Academic Coaching Workshop

Thursday, April 7

Time: 9 a.m. — 3 p.m.

Location: 1700 S. Patterson Blvd, River Campus, Room M2265

Academic advising often feels like a one-way conversation from advisor to student, with minimal input from the student. Imagine if we flip this model to both empower the students and integrate them into the decision making process. Changing the one-way conversation to a dialogue creates a collaborative environment in which the advisor becomes a coach, employing active listening, acknowledging student concerns, asking powerful questions, allowing students to champion their own successes, and transitioning the student to the primary decision maker.

Join Dayton for a two-part Academic Coaching Workshop on April 7, 2016 with the morning facilitated by coaching expert Dr. Jennifer Groh, Associate Director of Purdue’s Women in Engineering Program, followed by an afternoon session focused on coaching in the higher education classroom facilitated by Drs. Kristen and Don Comfort from the University of Dayton’s Chemical Engineering program.
