This event is a conversation about Shakespeare’s composition (as well as later recompositions) of Romeo and Juliet, presented by Department of English Shakespearean scholars Elizabeth Mackay and Alexander Macleod, and vocal artist Andrea Wells, Department of Music. They will look at Shakespeare’s writing of the play and consider, in turn, how that play has written itself into our own culture (as the perfect expression of romantic love, youthful idealism, rebellion and individual rights). In addition, students from the Department of Music's Opera Workshop will perform excerpts from various musical versions of Romeo and Juliet.
