Title: Spectral Properties of Jacobi Matrices

Abstract: This talk will present a commutator approach to the study of spectral measures associated with special classes of unbounded self-adjoint Jacobi matrix operators. Such an operator can be modeled as a multiplication operator defined on a dense subset of a function space with a polynomial basis. Properties of the basis polynomials, and commutator equations are used to obtain results on the absolute continuity of the corresponding spectral measure, as well as the existence of eigenvalues and spectral gaps.
