Tokyo-born pianist Kotaro Fukuma began studying piano at age 5 and at 20 was the first-prize winner in the Fifteenth Cleveland International Piano Competition. He took second prize and the special prize for the performance of a Finnish piece in the Helsinki Maj Lind International Piano Competition. His début recital was at Lincoln Center’s Alice Tully Hall, and he won the Carnegie Hall Debut Recital audition. He has performed in the United States and Europe and in South Korea, Taiwan, South Africa and Japan. His UD program will include works by Grieg, Chopin, Smetana, Tchikovsky, Ginastera, and Skelton.
