In this short pre-concert introduction to the work of Australian composer Peter Sculthorpe (1929–2014), Del Sol Quartet violinist Charlton Lee will talk with didgeridu player Stephen Kent. Sculthorpe was one of the first Western-trained composers to write for this indigenous instrument, and his compositions are highly evocative of Australia’s rugged beauty. In his own words, Sculthorpe confessed to being motivated by “the preservation of the environment and more recently, climate change.” Reception to follow. Talk is free, but tickets are required for the 7:30 pm concert.
