The Blessed Óscar Romero Human Rights Award is given in memory of the slain Salvadoran archbishop and is presented to an individual or organization whose work has contributed significantly to the promotion of the dignity of all persons and the alleviation of the suffering of the human community.

The 2017 award recipient is The Pastoral Land Commission of the Brazilian National Bishops’ Conference in recognition of its decades of solidarity with the poor, the landless and those subjected to forced labor in Brazil. The Human Rights Center will convene a symposium prior to the award ceremony, from 1:30 - 4:30 p.m. in the same location.
