Title: Set theory and automorphisms of corona algebras

Abstract: It is not difficult to show that every automorphism of the
Boolean algebra of sets of natural numbers is induced by a permutation
of the natural numbers. However, the situation becomes much more
complex when one changes "sets of natural numbers" to "sets of natural
numbers modulo finite differences", and in fact there can be many wild
automorphisms depending on set-theoretic assumptions. I will discuss
these results and related results in set-theoretic topology and
operator algebra. No knowledge of set theory will be assumed, beyond
the very basics.
