Profile

Don served as a local government administrator from 1973-1997. From 1973-1976 he was the Assistant City Manager for Miamisburg and served as City Manager there from 1976-1979. During 1979-1988 he served as Montgomery County Deputy Administrator and served as Montgomery County Administrator from 1988-1997.

Don has been teaching in UD's MPA Program from 1992 to the present. He has worked for the University of Dayton since leaving active local government administration. In addition to teaching, Don has spent the past several years working with projects of the Fitz Center for Leadership in Community, including the Dayton Neighborhood School Centers Program, working with the cohorts of UD’s Dayton Civic Scholars, and serving from time to time as executive search consultant for local governments in the State of Ohio. He rejoined the Department of Political Science as Executive in Residence in 2018.

Staff Perspective

Working as part of the Fitz Center team is allowing me to bring my 25 years of local government experience to students in the classroom and also allows me to work with members of the public, nonprofit, and private sectors in developing creative initiatives to improve our community.
