Profile
Dr. Ryan came to UD in 2014 to teach Christian Ethics in relation to business practices. He graduated from Swarthmore College in 1994 (B.A., Religion and English). After college, he was a teacher New York City's public schools, while also pursuing interests in theater. Following a long-standing interest in theology and social justice, he entered graduate school at the University of Virginia (Ph.D., 2006) in 1997 to study religious ethics in relation to law and public policy. While there, he discovered the “return to virtue” in moral philosophy and theological ethics, a discovery that has deeply influenced his research since then. Having come to the University of Dayton in 2014 as Lecturer in Christian Ethics, he now teaches and does research at the intersection of Christian ethics, Catholic social teachings and business practices.
