Profile & Areas of Primary Responsibility

Mary Ann Poirier Recker joined UD as its General Counsel in November 2012.  Prior to joining UD’s legal team, Mary Ann most recently practiced law with Dinsmore & Shohl LLP in Dayton.  From 2006 to 2009, she served as Deputy General Counsel of the United States Environmental Protection Agency at its headquarters in Washington, DC.  From 1996 to 2006, Mary Ann was an associate and then partner in the international law firm Baker Botts L.L.P., practicing in their Washington, DC office.  Mary Ann is a member of the Ohio Bar and has inactive licenses in DC and Tennessee.

As Vice President and General Counsel, Mary Ann is the University's chief legal officer and is responsible for a wide range of legal matters and institutional concerns.  This includes management of the Office of Legal Affairs and oversight of the University’s legal compliance and other legal strategies.  Her areas of practice include corporate governance, business transactions, nondiscrimination/Title IX issues, policy development, real estate matters, institutional compliance and general legal matters.  Mary Ann also serves as Secretary of the University.
