Personal History

Kelly joined the Center for Social Concern in 2007 after having been the Biology Lab Coordinator on UD’s campus since 2001. Kelly received her BS in Environmental Biology from UD in 1996 and her MS in Biology from UD in 2001. As a student here at UD, Kelly was active in campus ministry and participated in many breakouts and service opportunities. Since moving back to Dayton in December 2008, Kelly has been a MetroParks land stewardship intern, a volunteer youth minister at Queen of Apostle’s Catholic Parish in Beavercreek, a participant of the JustFaith program, a member of the Archdiocesan CRS committee, a member of a Marianist Lay Community, a world traveler (including a visit to Rome for the Beatification of Fr. Chaminade), a volunteer for local non-profit agencies, an instructor for various university science courses and labs (including service learning), an instructor for a graduate course on teaching science to college students, a mentor for graduate students, a member of the service learning committee for SOCHE, and a presenter at conferences and workshops.

Now, as the coordinator of community outreach, Kelly enjoys working with student leaders of service clubs, the REAL Dayton, and the MLK Principles of Justice Retreat as well as helping students to connect with our local Dayton community. She also is involved with UD’s “Sustainability, Energy, and the Environment Initiative” (SEE) and enjoys teaching a spring semester mini-course, “Living Simply and Sustainably,” which is inspired by her backgrounds in science and social justice. Kelly is married to Jeff (also a UD graduate), mother of two boys, an advocate for adoption, an advocate for living sustainably (her house has geothermal heating and cooling and a solar hot water heater), and loves being in nature (camping, hiking, walking, biking, kayaking, etc.).
