About the Educational Field Office

At the University of Dayton, the primary purpose of the educational field practicum is to enable students to develop competence in practice skills within the framework of teacher education values and ethics.

The field practicum provides opportunities for students to perform classroom tasks under the supervision of a field instructor and encourages the integration and application of concepts and principles learned in both the classroom and the practicum agency.

About field experience

  • All assignments for student teaching are arranged by the Educational Field Office.
  • We make every effort to accommodate your needs; however, a student teacher will not be placed in a school district in which she/he lives or has attended.
  • It is the policy of the School of Education and Health Sciences to place students in a variety of districts, including a "high-needs" school, as defined and required by the State of Ohio.
  • Students are asked not to contact schools until notified to do so by the Educational Field Office coordinator.
  • Credit is given only for student teaching assigned by the university through the Educational Field Office and supervised by university faculty.
