The School Counseling Program is designed so coursework in principles and practices of school counseling are integrated into both practicum and internship experiences. These clinical experiences are intended to provide school counselor candidates with opportunities to perform a variety of counseling activities licensed professional school counselors perform. Practicum consists of 100 clock hours of time spent at a designated school site. Internship consists of 600 clock hours of time at the same site or within the district directly following the practicum experience.

Practicum is expected to be completed over the course of one semester and Internship is divided into three sections of 200 clock hours, which must cover a minimum of two semesters, but can be completed at a pace congruent with each candidate's plan to meet this requirement. Throughout both field experiences, candidates will receive supervision at their site by a licensed professional school counselor as well as at the university by licensed school counseling faculty. During the semester prior to enrollment in practicum, students are required to complete an online practicum application and attend an orientation session.
