Welcome to the Department of Educational Leadership

About the Department

The Department of Educational Leadership offers graduate-level programs that prepare educational professionals to serve effectively at all levels of leadership in pre-kindergarten to grade 12 public, Catholic and other non-public schools. We also seek to contribute to the knowledge base in school administration and provide service to all pre-kindergarten to grade 12 schools. With courses offered at our main campus, at satellite locations and online, our students can achieve their educational goals at their own pace while maintaining their professional responsibilities.

The University ... plays a significant role in preparing Ohio principals, with nearly 20% of the state's newly licensed principals graduating from the University of Dayton. Students of these principals also meet or exceed expectations at a higher rate than those of graduates of other Ohio principal license programs, according to the Education Preparation Performance Report, 2012, by the Ohio Board of Regents. (UD News, Jan. 4, 2013)

Every school district will face a crisis - big or small. It happens. How your district communicates during that crisis can determine whether or not the community trusts you and is able to move forward.

Education leaders need all the tools they can get in dealing with crisis. Many school districts are not prepared to communicate in a clear and effective manner. This seminar will offer some basic, but critical tools in managing a crisis.

Technology has changed the way we communicate, and the demand for public schools to connect with the public has never been greater. The need is even more important as your school district approaches votes to approve a levy request.

Passing levies and connecting with voters has always been a challenge. During times of increased scrutiny by voters and a tough economy, having a well-organized, well-managed communication strategy before you ask the voters for money is imperative.
