Sara Minge

Middle Childhood Education, Class of 2015

The teacher education program at the University of Dayton has prepared me so well for this upcoming year as I begin my first year of teaching in 8th grade science. The professors I had during my time at UD were great mentors for me and guided me through every step of the program. They challenged me and provided me with ample opportunities for growth and professional development. My professors instilled in me the Marianist values, which inspire me to serve my school and community. I am so thankful for the faculty and staff of the department of teacher education who have helped me grow into a well-rounded educator.

Samantha Morakis

Intervention Specialist, Class of 2015

My school year started a little earlier than expected when I accepted a job as the resource teacher at a year round elementary school in Raleigh, North Carolina.  As I began work on July 1, only two months after graduating from UD, I couldn't stop thinking about all of the classes and information I learned at UD in the past four years. I felt extremely prepared to begin this journey as a first year teacher. It is because of the UD professors and classes that I am able to go to work everyday knowing exactly what to do and loving every minute of it. I just wanted to thank the Teacher Education professors for everything they have done to help me become a teacher I am today!

Early Childhood Education, Class of 2015

How does a graduate of the University of Dayton Teacher Education program describe how the program has shaped their lives, helped them grow, and guided them to begin a teaching career? It is not easy. From my very first class in Teacher Education to my final day of my senior year student teaching experience to my job interviews, I felt nothing shy of the utmost support and guidance from every single one of my professors and every member of the Teacher Education staff. The professors and staff all made it clear that they were available beyond typical “office hours,” instead using up their personal time to make sure their students were supported. In class, our professors did not just stand up and teach, but rather relied on us to help share how we had seen what we were learning in our clinical experiences. As I begin my teaching career as a first grade teacher for Miamisburg City Schools, I feel prepared with the best knowledge of how to not only teach content to my students, but to create a community of students who love to learn. I know how to do this because in the UD Teacher Education program, the professors do just that. As I start my career, I know that not only do I have a degree from one of the top programs in the nation, but I also have a group of professors and staff who I can always reach out to for support even now that I have graduated. To have continued support from the University of Dayton Teacher Education Department has made being a part of the UD Teacher Education program one of the best decisions of my life. I know there are and will be many more people who feel this exact same way. Thank you UD Teacher Education for everything, without such a fantastic experience over the past four years, I do not know where I would be.

Adolescent to Young Adult Education, Class of 2015

Upon starting at UD four years ago in the Teacher Education program, I never imagined how helpful, supportive, and educational my experience would be. Between all of the amazing faculty and staff, I always felt like I was gaining so much insight and knowledge about what it truly meant to be a teacher. Both in and out of the classroom, I felt continuous support and guidance from everyone involved in the education department, and I know that it is because of this school that I am so prepared to begin my life as a full-time teacher. The professors continuously provided us with best knowledge and strategies to succeed in our own classrooms and allow our students to always reach their full potential. Now, four years later and about to begin my first year as a full-time teacher, I have never felt more prepared and confident in my abilities, and I owe that to the amazing faculty and staff of UD Teacher Education.
