2013 Wisdom and Witness Symposium Held at UD

Image of Father JosephThe University of Dayton Center for Catholic Education (CCE) for the first time collaborated with National Catholic Educational Association (NCEA) to host the 2013 Wisdom & Witness Symposium June 26, 27 and 28, 2013.

The New Evangelization Through the Lens of Adolescence was the theme of this year’s national gathering of Catholic educators of adolescents, which included religion teachers, campus ministers, school principals and assistant principals. Through discussion and activities, participants collaborated to discover ways to more effectively engage adolescents so as to deepen their relationship with Jesus Christ and the Church, and to help them develop skills for articulating faith to others.

Father Satish Joseph, associate pastor at Immaculate Conception and St. Helen parishes in Dayton, Ohio, inspired those in attendance with his story of spiritually connecting with the youth of his parish and of the Dayton region. Other witnesses included principals, youth ministers, and leaders of spiritual encounters and retreats and they, too, shared their experiences of sparking the flame of the Spirit among adolescents. Participants bonded through critical consideration of their own practices and experiences, and left with a firm conviction to enhance their work through the examples and fervor of their colleagues.
