How to Enjoy a Rainy Day in August

Nearly 65 Dayton area Catholic and public school teachers gathered in UD’s Fitz Hall on a rainy August day to curl up with some good books. Colleen Gromek, 6th grade teacher at St. Brigid School, and Amy McDonald, 2nd grade teacher at Holy Angels School, worked with the Dayton Metro Library to gather multiple copies of over 300 recently published titles for participants to peruse during the annual Read-In.  A few teachers and librarians served as featured speakers for short discussions of their favorite titles and shared ideas for using select titles in the classroom.

The purpose of this exciting and fun event is to help teachers stay abreast of recently published, quality literature and to share ideas for classroom implementation. Participants were given time to read, talk, listen, and enjoy the wide assortment of genres and titles, all with the freedom to choose how to spend their day. The consensus among participants once again this year was that knowledge gained and resources shared at the Read-In would have a positive impact on students in their classrooms.
