From China to Dayton: Bishop Lu Visits Area Schools

Catholic Bishop Francis Lu Xinping of Nanjing, China made a very special visit to the Dayton area this academic year thanks to a coordinated effort by the University of Dayton President’s Office and the Center for Catholic Education (CCE).

Bishop Lu toured four schools in his quest to observe and learn how schools in the United States employ intervention methods to assist all students, particularly those with special needs.  Chaminade Julienne High School, Ascension Catholic School, St. Albert the Great Catholic School, and Fairmont High School welcomed the opportunity to highlight their individual programs for promoting student growth and achievement among students with special needs.

Accompanying Bishop Lu’s entourage of nine dignitaries from China were members of the UD community including Susan Ferguson, director of the CCE; Dr. Kevin Kelly, dean of the School of Education and Health Sciences; Dr. Weiping Wang, executive director of UD’s China Institute; Ted Bucaro, government and regional relations director; and Rhonda Mercs, director of the Urban Child Development Resource Center.
