Early Learning Challenge Grant Partnership with OCCRRA

image of occrra logoThis year the Center for Early Learning worked with OCCRRA (Ohio Child Care and Resource and Referral Association) and the Ohio Department of Education to create online training. Under the coordination of Susan Ferguson and the Center for Catholic Education, we created new online trainings for early childhood educators across the state. This year’s efforts included the creation of trainings on family engagement, leadership in early childhood, curriculum alignment and inclusive practices. Each of these trainings is offered to participants either in face-to-face training format or as an online training where participants complete two modules on their own time and then sign up for a group webinar to discuss items from the training. The Special Projects coordinators, Leah Lauver and Caroline Davis, worked with Susan Ferguson from the Center for Catholic Education with the University of Dayton and also with Laurie Dinnebeil, an Early Childhood Professor from the University of Toledo. The group worked to create engaging online experiences for participants and brainstormed how to translate these experiences into face-to-face trainings. The group produced their own videos to make the training more meaningful.  Many of the Bombeck staff were featured actors in these videos.  The group also met with OCCRRA in Columbus to have our teachers’ work peer reviewed by a focus group. These trainings are now Step Up to Quality approved and available at registry.occrra.org.
