The University of Dayton's Building Energy Center (UD-BEC) goal is to help improve building performance and energy efficiency while educating energy-efficiency engineers and advancing the science of building energy performance.


CETRASE: Center of Excellence Thin-Film Research and Surface Engineering

University of Dayton researchers, with a combined 15 patents and more than 600 publications, have joined forces and established CETRASE to focus on the improvement of sensors, electronics, electro-optics and energy systems.

Industrial Assessment Center

The University of Dayton Industrial Assessment Center (UD-IAC) conducts free energy, waste and production assessments for mid-sized industries and is funded by the U.S. Department of Energy. 


Innovation Center

The cornerstone of the University of Dayton School of Engineering, the Innovation Center is a transformational space where all disciplines of our School come together to encounter, debate, address, investigate and solve multi-faceted problems. 

LOCI: Ladar and Optical Communications Institute

The LOCI is believed to offer the nation's first laser radar curriculum. LOCI consolidates the brainpower of the region's ladar researchers — instructors from the University of Dayton and the Air Force Institute of Technology.

Mumma Radar Lab, Center of Excellence

One of the world's most unique radar labs. While robots are rotating in the space, the custom-made eight-channel Agilent Network Analyzer collects data from eight antennas. Designated as a Center of Excellence in Distributed Sensing and Multistatic Radar.

SEEI: Strategic Energy and Environmental Informatics, Center of Excellence

SEEI was selected as a state of Ohio university energy center and combines world-class strengths in energy, environmental and biological informatics to help Ohioans improve energy efficiency and reduce environmental impacts.

UD-Fraunhofer Center

To develop advanced transportation systems such as electric cars, high-speed trains and composite airplanes and to maintain production of critical aerospace parts with the highest levels of safety and reliability, the University of Dayton School of Engineering collaborates with the Fraunhofer Institute of Non-Destructive Testing, Dresden, Germany. 

Vision Lab, Center of Excellence

The Vision Lab at the University of Dayton focuses on computer vision and wide-area surveillance to develop new algorithms and architectures for real-time applications in the areas of signal processing, image processing, computer vision, pattern recognition, artificial neural networks and bio-mimetic object-vision recognition.

January 2015, we opened the Center to accelerate the advancement of engineering education at the University of Dayton, recognizing the need to acquire new technology and accelerate pedagogical improvements for the 21st century.

von Ohain Fuels and Combustion, Center of Excellence

Named for Hans von Ohain, co-inventor of the jet engine and former University of Dayton professor of mechanical engineering, the Center is a gateway to fuels and combustion education, research and development, technology transfer and knowledge dissemination.
