Directors and Officers Liability Insurance

University Employees and Officers:
Directors and Officers liability insurance protects the directors, officers, faculty and employees for claims arising from the activities of these individuals while functioning in their official capacity at a company.  This type of insurance can cover costs or damages lost as a result of a lawsuit.

Volunteers acting under the direction and control of the University and for its benefit are considered agents and thus covered. The insurance authoirizes the University to pay claims based on the negligent acts of agents against allegations of negligence, which may have caused injury or property damage to others provided the agent was acting within the scope of his/her responsibilities to the University. It is important that volunteers acknowledge mistakes that could lead to potential liability claims and that such incidents be reported promptly to EHS/RM at 937 229 4503.

Volunteers are not covered by worker’s compensation. However, if injured during the course of their volunteer work, they would have the same legal rights as any visitor to the campus to seek compensation if the injury resulted from University negligence. Please note that all volunteers must follow the background check procedures established by Human Resources before serving at the University.
