Mission Statement

Our mission is to make the University of Dayton a top choice for veteran and military affiliated students. Through enhanced access to programs and services, we are committed to linking this diverse community’s leadership and service experiences with learning and scholarship from the undergraduate to the doctoral levels.

Office Description

MVPS exists to serve the UD military and veteran community. This community is made up of those who currently or have previously served in the Armed Forces of the United States and their families. Responsibilities include veteran transition to higher education, support to students who balance their education with ongoing military duty, enrollment and retention, benefits advising, and community outreach. MVPS is the “First Stop Shop” for all UD military and veteran community members.

Early Course Registration

We are proud to give back to those who have served and sacrificed. Veterans, Service Members, Cadets, and benefits eligible family members can register early for courses, getting you the classes you need.

University of Dayton is a proud participant of the Yellow Ribbon Program.

Undergraduate students receiving Post 9/11 GI Bill® and Yellow Ribbon have their cost of tuition completely covered in Fall and Spring!  While graduate programs vary, most qualified graduate students will experience the same. See the Yellow Ribbon section for full details.

GI Bill® is a registered trademark of the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). More information about education benefits offered by VA is available at the official U.S. government Web site at www.benefits.va.gov/gibill/.

University of Dayton received the "Collegiate Purple Star" Award.

The Ohio Department of Higher Education awards the Collegiate Purple Star designation to schools who meet and exceed federal and state guidelines for serving military affiliated students. These include providing designated points of contacts for student veterans, early registration, evaluating and awarding credit for prior learning, providing career services, supporting the Student Veteran Association, and more!

University of Dayton earned a “Best of the Best 2023” designation.

For the third year in a row, U.S. Veterans Magazine, a publication of DiversityComm, Inc awarded UD a designation of a “Top Veteran-Friendly School”.  Each year, DiversityComm, a woman-owned and disability-owned business, conducts non-biased evaluations to identify “Best of the Best” in relation to outreach and accessibility to the minority, veteran, female, people with disabilities and LGBT population.

University of Dayton earned a 2023 Veterans Nationwide BEST designation.

College Factual™ analyzed over 2,100 schools nationwide and found UD to be in the top 5% for veterans. They also found UD to be in the top 5% for veterans majoring in Education, Computer Engineering, Finance, and Entrepreneurial Studies. Our programs in Mechanical Engineering and Business, Management & Marketing are in the top 10% for veterans.

University of Dayton earned a 2022-23 U.S. News & World Report "Best Colleges for Veterans" designation.
Only a fraction of colleges across the country receive the U.S. News & World Report "National Universities" title, and an even smaller number receive the "Best Colleges for Veterans" designation. We received them both. The publication awards these to schools who, "offer a full range of undergraduate majors, plus master's and doctoral programs. These colleges also are committed to producing groundbreaking research [and] participate in federal initiatives helping veterans and active-duty service members pay for their degrees." We also ranked very high in their category of "Best Value Schools".
University of Dayton earned a 2021 Military Times “Best for Vets: Colleges” designation.

Military Times ranked 366 schools and found UD to be in the top 5% of colleges for vets nationwide.  In narrower categories we ranked as the #1 Private Not-For-Profit in the Midwest and the #2 Private Not-For-Profit nationwide.

University of Dayton earned a 2021-22 Military Friendly® School Top 10 Gold designation.

Military Friendly® is a component of a service-disabled, veteran-owned small business.  This year they rated over 1200 schools and determined that UD placed within the Top Ten schools in our category!
