Pope John Paul II raised the liturgical commemoration of the Immaculate Heart of Mary from an optional to an obligatory memorial in the General Roman Calendar. The celebration falls on the day (always a Saturday) after the feast of the Sacred Heart, which is the Friday after Corpus Christi. The placement of the commemoration indicates the connection with the mystery of divine Heart of Jesus.
