Miracles and Children

Q: Can you tell me about miracles occurring with Mary and children?

A: There are a number of miracles where Our Lady intervenes on behalf of children. Probably, the numerically most important type of children miracles deals with the resurrection of the infant. For example, a woman unable to have children gives birth to a baby thanks to Mary's intervention. The baby dies after birth. The mother brings the dead baby to the church and spends the whole night in prayer. The next morning, the child's life is restored. The motif of the abandoned child does not exist except for one situation where a mother enters religious life (sacrificial). In general, infancy was a widely-neglected motif in the Middle Ages, and thus the child without or little consideration for itself.
