Our Lady of the Sea

Our Lady of the Sea

Q: Has Mary been referred to as Our Lady of the Sea?

A: Yes, there is such a title, not to be mistaken for Star of the Sea. Our Lady of the Sea is a common appellation in seafarer countries, Spain especially, but also Brittany and Malta.

Our Lady of the Sea The connection is mainly that of protection; hence there are many marine ex-votos showing ships in the throes of tempest and storm with Our Lady walking over the waves and rescuing the people.
