Silence Enjoined on Alleged Visionary
Archbishop Edwin O'Brien has ordered purported Marian visionary Gianna Talone-Sullivan not to communicate with others about her alleged apparitions. In an advisory sent to area parishes, the archbishop wrote, "I strongly caution Mrs. Gianna Talone-Sullivan not to communicate in any manner--written or spoken, electronic or printed, personally or through another in any church or any place, public or private, within the jurisdiction of Baltimore--any information of any type related to or containing messages or locutions allegedly received from the Virgin Mother of God. It is my hope that this warning will result in greater clarity for the faithful and resolve the divisions created by this situation." Sullivan indicated that she would abide by the archbishop's order, and canceled her scheduled public appearances. (The Catholic World Report, December 2008, 18)
