Summer Educational Exchange @ Dayton - English Teachers

Improve your English communication skills and explore new ideas and ways of teaching English in a two-week program at the University of Dayton.

Program Details

Dates: Monday, July 9 - Friday, July 20 (Arrive on Sunday, July 8; depart on Saturday, July 21) The University of Dayton will provide airport pickup for groups. Arrival pick up times are between 11am and 4pm.

Price: $2350

Housing: Teachers reside in a single-occupancy room located in an on-campus residential hall. These rooms include a bed, desk, chair, closet and small refrigerator. Shared laundry facilities, lounges and open space for social gatherings are also available in each residential hall.

Meals: Breakfast, lunch, and dinner buffets are offered daily to participants.

Cost Includes: tuition, room, meals, field trips, escorted pick-up and drop-off to and from the Dayton International Airport, and Campus Recreation facilities. Cost does NOT include visa fees, bank and/or wire transfer fees, health insurance, airfare, off-campus meals, or souvenirs.

What to expect

English teachers participating in the Summer Educational Exchange @ Dayton program will engage in activities to improve their oral and written English communication skills, and participate in training courses and Methodology Workshops. Details for each of these are as follows:

English Communication Course:

  • 8 hours per week
  • Focus on exploring the American Short Story and the Literature Circles method
  • Designed to challenge teachers to expand their competencies by engaging in reflection and exploring new methods

Training of Trainers Course:

  • 8 hours per week (plus 5 hours per week self-guided)
  • Focus on developing knowledge and skills needed to effectively lead professional development sessions for both teachers’ home schools and at conferences
  • Experiential training and reflection based on Methodology Workshops
  • Self-guided project to develop a professional development session on teacher's topic of choice

Methodology Workshops:

  • 6 hours per week
  • Workshops, presentations, and group discussions led by faculty of the School of Education and the Intensive English Program
  • Hands-on activities designed to carry over into the teachers’ home classrooms and used as a model for Training of Trainers course 

In addition to academic learning, participants have the opportunity to learn about American culture by taking several local field trips and participate in on-campus activities.
