Michele Mirto '91

Director, Volunteer Lawyers Program
Tuscon, Arizona

Michele Mirto is the director of the Volunteer Lawyers Program for Southern Arizona Legal Aid. Under her leadership, thousands of volunteer lawyers have taken cases on a pro bono basis to help low-income Arizonans resolve legal problems. Her volunteer attorneys have helped the poor settle landlord-tenant issues and gain civil protection orders for battered women among other diverse legal issues.

Through her leadership, Mirto has expanded the volunteer program beyond its base in Tucson by recruiting and maintaining volunteer attorneys and law students in other areas of the state. She is a 1991 graduate of the University of Dayton School of Law and was awarded the Special Achievement Award from the University of Dayton in 2005 for her exemplary work.
