Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Month

November 2018

Every November, a team of students organizes a series of events to create awareness about the issues of hunger and homelessness that plague our nation and our world. If you are interested in being a part of this year's planning team, please contact Cheyenne Palmer.

Thanksgiving Food Drive "Takover Days" Fundraisers:

Oct. 11th from 6 pm to 8 pm - Artstreet Cafe Takeover 
Oct. 24th from 10 am to 1 pm - Heritage Takeover

Oxfam Hunger Banquet
Location: VWK Main
November 7th @ 5:30 pm - 7:30 pm

This Hunger Banquet is to raise awareness educate students on populations experiencing homelessness. This event will consist of a dinner and discussion on world hunger. Discussion will largely surround the topic of world poverty as well as other facets of world hunger in order to better understand the root causes and what we, as students, can do about it. PATH Eligible


Thanksgiving Food Drive Van Collections
Location: S1 (by Fitz Hall), S2 (between Rec and Stuart field), 1700 South Patterson River Campus (by North entrance)
November 6th & 7th @ 12:30 pm – 2:30 pm and 4 pm - 5:30 pm

This food drive is presented by the Center for Social Concern. Students and Faculty may donate non-perishable foods that will go in a basket and given to those families in our community who are in need. Donations can be made through Flex or Flyer Express (Oct. 29th – Nov. 1st), cash can be dropped off in Liberty Hall RM 107 and checks can be made payable as well.

Service Saturday (Food Baskets)
Location: Meet in Liberty Hall
November 10th @ 8:30 am - 2 pm

Join us for a morning or afternoon of service, sorting and organizing donations for the Thanksgiving Food Drive. This service will be on campus, but will benefit families throughout the Dayton region.

November 20th @ 12:30 pm – 1:30 pm

Join us for this month’s lunch discussion related to issues of Hunger and Homelessness.  Lunch will be provided by the Center for Social Concern staff. Please RSVP on the Center for Social Concern’s Website or through AVIATE. PATH Eligible.

Homelessness Plunge/ Sleep Out
Location: 33 W. First St. #100 Dayton OH 45402
November 15th @ 7 pm – 7 am

In partnership with Homefull, a local agency that works to provide services, solutions, and innovations for people experiencing hunger and homelessness.  This experience will start with a film screening and discussion of the movie Tiny, followed by a sleep out in Dayton.  This experience is designed to get a small snapshot of what it is like for a person experiencing homelessness on a daily basis.  Please RSVP on the Center for Social Concern’s website listed below.  Transportation provided.
