Step 3: Planning the Wedding Liturgy

Six to nine months before your wedding

What about planning the details of the wedding liturgy?

The priest or deacon witnessing your wedding will assist you in planning the wedding liturgy. The Campus Minister for Liturgical Music, Scott Paeplow, is the resource for your planning of appropriate music selections for your wedding liturgy.

There are some helpful planning resources available to you including the following:

All of these resources may be sent to you by Kathy Sales.

Wedding Music Selections:

The celebration of Christian marriage in the Church is a joyous event and the decisions regarding music and musicians are important ones. When we gather as a Christian community to celebrate sacraments, including marriage, we always do so with congregational singing and the assistance of professionals of various ministries.

The Campus Minister for Liturgical Music understands the marriage rite, the liturgy, and the vital connection which exists between music and the sacramental rite. Since your wedding will be celebrated at the University of Dayton Chapel, it follows that making selections about music and additional musicians will best be completed by working with our Campus Minister for Liturgical Music.

The appropriate music for your wedding will enhance the celebration of the sacrament of marriage. Music and musical text should be appropriate for a church ceremony and support the sacred nature of the ceremony.”Wagner’s Bridal Chorus” is not permitted for use at weddings in the Chapel of the Immaculate Conception.

The Campus Minister for Liturgical Music, Scott Paeplow, will consult with you about appropriate music choices. Contact Scott at 937.229.2052 six months prior to your wedding. Your wedding fee includes the services of a UD approved musician. Once Scott assigns an approved musician to your wedding, you will be forwarded their contact information.

For more details about music, answers to several common questions, and a list of song suggestions, please go to the Liturgical Music for your Wedding page.

For all Liturgical Music questions (for Wedding or any other liturgy), please contact Scott Paeplow, the Campus Minister for Liturgical Music.
