Getting the Message Across

UD's Media Production Group takes top honors at this year's Dayton Ad Club awards.

The University of Dayton's Media Production Group recently won the Best of Show award in the Dayton Advertising Club's annual Hermes/Addy competition.

The top distinction was given for the Media Production Group demo CD, an interactive, multimedia presentation that illustrates the group's capabilities.

In addition, the Media Production Group received two Gold Addy awards in the industry self-promotion category. The first was for an interactive Web-based Flash presentation titled "Tom the Intern," a humorous piece that tells the story of a zealous student intern struggling to create a promo for the Media Production Group. (View the piece at http://mpg.udayton.edu/email/adventure1/.) The second was for the Media Production Group demo CD.

The Dayton Advertising Club also awarded the Media Production Group a Bronze Addy in the interactive category for an e-mail presentation sent to UD's young alumni. The presentation uses images, text and music to take alumni back to their college years and shows them how gifts to the UD Annual Fund help preserve the UD experience.

This year, the Dayton Advertising Club received 447 entries for the 18 categories in the competition.

In addition to the Hermes/Addy awards, the Media Production Group also recently won a Crystal Award of Excellence in the national Communicator Awards, given to projects that exceed industry standards in production or communication skills, for its promotional CD. It also won an honorable mention for the young alumni e-mail presentation.

"When we set out to do a program, we don't set out to win the awards. Our focus is on producing an effective piece," said Michael Kurtz, Media Production Group senior producer. "That said, it's very gratifying to have our work recognized by our peers in the industry."

Part of the UD School of Business Administration, the Media Production Group specializes in business-to-business communication, including sales promotions, training programs and company overviews. It has won numerous awards, including Telly Awards, a Broadcast Education Association Award, American Corporate Video Awards and a Silver Quill Award from the International Association of Business Communicators.
