Day and Night

The University of Dayton theatre program is presenting the award-winning musical "A Day in Hollywood/A Night in the Ukraine" featuring classic Hollywood songs and Marx Brothers sketches.

Audiences at the University of Dayton's winter theater performance will enjoy two shows in one.

"A Day in Hollywood/A Night in the Ukraine" is a Tony Award-winning musical comedy "double feature" in the style of "The Producers" and "Thoroughly Modern Millie" that first appeared on Broadway in the 1980s, said director Kay Bosse.

The show is scheduled for 8 p.m. Jan. 25-26 and Jan. 31-Feb. 2 and 7 p.m. Jan. 27 in Kennedy Union's Boll Theatre.

The first act is a tribute to the movie musicals of the 1930s, including "The Wizard of Oz." The second act features students performing a fast-paced, raucous comedy as the legendary Marx Brothers, complete with tap dancing, bicycles and rubber chickens, Bosse said.

"The performance of this rarely seen show reveals the early roots of the movie musical and the revolutionary comedy of possibly the greatest comedy team of all time, the Marx Brothers," she said.

Admission is $10 for the public and $6 for University students, faculty and staff. For tickets, call the box office at 937-229-2545.
