Reunited, and it feels so good

A record 2,154 alumni and guests are expected to return to campus for the University of Dayton Reunion Weekend 2008.

A record 2,154 alumni and guests are expected to return to campus for the University of Dayton Reunion Weekend 2008, according to Reunion Weekend Coordinator Courtney Deutsch.

"That’s officially a new attendance record, and we haven't even gotten any walk-ups yet," said Deutsch, who also will be part of the festivities by celebrating her 10-year reunion. “If past year trends continue, I can expect as many as 300 more registrations. That would put our total at several hundred more than any previous year."

The class of 2003 and the class of 1998 are expected to have the largest turnouts with 396 and 377, respectively. Nearly a third of the living members of the class of 1958 (124 of 421) have registered to return to celebrate 50 years as UD alumni.

Alumni are expected to travel from as far as Belize and Lebanon.

University advancement officials said reunion giving has totaled $1.5 million this fiscal year. Total alumni giving for the fiscal year is $15.6 million. UD ranks fourth, behind Notre Dame, Boston College and Georgetown, in the percentage of alumni donors among Catholic universities.

This year is the first year for the Flyer Fun Run/Walk. Nearly 350 people have registered for the event. It begins at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, June 21, in front of Kennedy Union.

Other popular events include the wedding vow renewal ceremony (4 p.m., Saturday, June 21, in Immaculate Conception Chapel) and the Porch Party (7 to 11 p.m. Saturday, June 21, at Lawnview Avenue and Lowes Street in the south student neighborhood).
